28 December 2013 - Santander, Spain - An abandoned construction site comprising half a dozen identical unfinished detached houses on a plot of land in the countryside near the city of Santander in North-West Spain. An unchecked construction frenzy that took place in the late 1990s and early 2000s in Spain added to the severity of the economic crisis when the construction bubble burst. Conversely, the general economic crisis accelerated the collapse of the construction sector and the country is now dotted with unfinished construction sites abandoned by developers and contractors that went out of business.
